New publication in the J Appl Phys today. S. Speziale @GFZ_Potsdam as first author. The equation of state of TaC0.99 by X-ray diffraction in radial scattering geometry to 32 GPa and 1073 K. https://t.co/QxVXoAorpI It took a while but finally, it's out! https://t.co/KIB8x2Mtmh
Another request to "Guest Edit a Special Issue" from mdpi. I already refused several times. How can you trust a publisher with such harassment strategies?
Yesterday, temperature went over 40°C in Northern France, over 104°F in US units. That's 18°C above median temperatures and an absolute record high.

Anne Pommier from @Scripps_Ocean is visiting us at @univ_lille for 3 weeks. Discussions on electrical conductivity in various environments, and a great opportunity for PhD students to get introductory classes to Earth and planetary sciences! https://t.co/b0ePkjVuka
Last day on the @ESRF_UserOrg. A bit sad to go but, after 4 years on the committee, I was lacking motivation. Good luck to my successor, Guillaume Morard, for representing Dynamics and Extreme Conditions users @esrfsynchrotron. I am sure he will do a great job!
RT @ESRF_UserOrg: Welcome Guillaume and Aleksey. Official announcement will follow soon. And thank you, Alex Fernandez Martinez and @sebast…
Train entering Paris. This afternoon: PhD defence of F. Miozzi Ferrini @IMPMC_Lab. Experimental study of the Fe-Si-C system and applications to carbon rich exoplanets.

Personally, I have decided to try to stay away from mdpi special issues for the time being. One would have to twist my arm hard for me to write such paper.
@RushmerT Predatory behavior, that is for sure. Predatory journals I do not know. They do manage to get scientific content from respected scientists. I am not sure about the overall quality of the published papers.
How often do you get request from mdpi to edit special issues? Myself: 3rd time this year. Beware fellow scientists: special issues are a business model for this editing company. Good for you ego, but I am very dubious of the scientific impact of too many special issues.
RT @DeepTransitions: End of a week of datatron for the TIMEleSS project! Intense multigrain diffraction data processing. Moving forward in…
@wrenmontgomery @desy You get invited to join a panel. The facilities keep a balance of fields and competences to make sure everyone is represented.
Two weeks after Soleil, sitting in @desy for PETRA III beamtime allocations.Lucky enough, it is my last time sitting on this panel. Sitting on 2 synchrotron panels at the same time is to much!
Podcats is available at the link below, for Wed Apr 24 and show "Vous êtes bien urbains!". All in French obviously! https://t.co/jnK064poGm
Trying to get ready for an interview on local University radio. New experience. I have never done this before! https://t.co/ZpIas2BnTX
@soto_el_rojo Indeed. The thing is, Java is not supported by most browsers anymore. It would have to be rewritten in another language, that won't be supported 10 years from now!
I have been on such panel for some time. Not an easy job because pressure for beamtime is high. Tough to say no to good projects because of lack of available beamtime.
This work is critical for synchrotrons. They need to know who should get beamtime and make sure it is worth it.
Discussions have started for review panel 3 - Matter and material properties: Structure - @synchroSOLEIL. 1 day 1/2 to decide on beamtime allocations. Discussion will be tough. https://t.co/HlzD9rSKBJ

@MineralToPlanet Here it is: cell and 3D model. Love the blue diamonds. https://t.co/JqpucaRZgq
@MineralToPlanet Betsa actually did one for me. A scale 2 model of a full diamond cell, screws included!
Congratulations to Chris Marone for his Louis Neel medal at #EGU19 ! https://t.co/yK53WrV7wL
How do you avoid conflict of interest for journals that would have an interest in publishing as much as possible?
How do you ensure quality and integrity?
Busy room at #EGU19 for discussion about Plan S and the future of scientific publishing. Will European and World science switch to full open access publishing? https://t.co/QHXJVhvYsI

On the train to Paris. Guillaume Morard at @IMPMC_Lab @ScienceSorbonne is defending his habilitation. There should be penty of discussions on high pressure, iron melting curves, deep Earth, and planetary cores! #earthcore #highpressure #iron.

@KananiKMLee @jinzhang87 Those cases are not easy to handle. Punishment can be high and no-one really wants to get into this. It is hard to find a good balance.
