The Earth's core, lower mantle, and upper mantle

The Earth's core, lower mantle, and upper mantle © S. Merkel, Univ. Lille, France

I finally decided to prepare a new figure of the Earth's internal structure. I prepared a whole series of illustrations, with the Earth as a whole, the outer core, inner core, upper mantle, and lower mantle. The inner core is in dark red, the outer core is in light red, the lower mantle is in dark green, and the upper mantle is in light green. I also included a figure with a 6200 km flight (Paris to Washington DC). It can be used to give an idea of the Earth's radius (6371 km).

Do no hesitate to use those figures for classes and presentations. You can also use them in a printed document or on the web, but you should show my name and give me proper credit for the figure.
